Hi Guys,
As we're a third of the way through the season, I thought I would share with you all a little bit of analysis on our performance!
First of all to our selections:
Between us we chose 69% of the drivers, that's 18 out of the possible 32, thankfully we all had foresight not to choose the ill fated US F1 team! The most popular driver was Bruno Senna, was it because he was cheap, or was it the name? Surprisingly nobody chose Fernando Alonso, mind you he was the most expensive driver this year. the other surprise is that nobody chose Rubens Barrichello, he's sure to pick up plenty points throughout this season.
We chose 77% of the cars, surprisingly again, nobody chose Renault or Mercedes, both of which performing very well! (Mercedes being re-branded from BrawnGP, last years champions!) Most popular car was the Sauber, something all four of us will no doubt regret considering that 3 out of the 5 cheaper teams are performing consistently better!
Finally to engines, we chose all four on offer, the most popular being Mercedes. It should be a no-brainer really, this engine may not be the most popular but has been the most consistent points performer over the last few seasons!
Onto our performances, and you've no doubt already worked out that Danny has yet strengthened his lead against his nearest competitor Simon who is also showing a very strong performance. Top 3 Placing: 1. Green pigeon 2. The muck Muppets 3. Guinness Original
The Best Constructor is me, closely followed by Danny and Alan which just goes to show the strength of Danny's team! Top 3 Constructors: 1. Collie Buddz Academy 2. The Muck Muppets 3. Phaeton Communications
There's an interesting switch with driver pairings which shows myself leading against Steve and Danny (yet again) This goes to prove that choosing the Best Car, or the best driver will win you this championship! Top 3 Driver Pairing: 1. Collie Buddz Racing 2. FunBuggy kids 3. Green Pigeon
Other interesting stats include: The difference between our top team and bottom team. A mahooosive 500 points and with the weekly average score being 200 points, that's a giant mountain to climb! In the last 6 races, the lead has only changed twice, with a great deal of battling between the rest of us for 4th through to 13th. That only leaves Jason and Steve battling it out for last place, right from the beginning of the season! (Sorry guys, had to slip that one in, it's quite amusing!)
In the F1 world though, who knows what will happen, we just need a splash of rain or a contravertial ruling and it could all change at the top.
Next race is Turkey in two weeks time (30th May) By the time the Turkish Grand Prix was added to the Formula 1 calendar in 2005, the paddock’s initial enthusiasm for the modern Hermann Tilke-designed tracks was beginning to wane. The feeling was that the new circuits’ mix of long wide straights, tight corners, and the odd flowing sequence was becoming too formulaic and predictable, and few expected any surprises from Istanbul. So the new Turkish track was a breath of fresh air. Varied, undulating, and packed with overtaking opportunities, it had a much more ‘natural’ feeling about it than the other new circuits, and instantly became a firm favourite with drivers. The never-ending turn eight, a 160mph, multi-apex sweeper, is rightly regarded as the track’s highlight. Kimi Raikkonen dominated the inaugural race in 2005, but was unimpressed to see his McLaren team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya hand second place to Raikkonen’s title rival Fernando Alonso after tangling with a backmarker. After that, the Turkish GP was all about Felipe Massa for several years. The Brazilian took his first pole and win at Istanbul Park in 2006, and repeated that performance at the circuit in both the next two years. The 2008 race was his toughest Turkish challenge yet, but he managed to overcome Lewis Hamilton on strategy despite losing the lead to his McLaren rival early on. But last year, with Ferrari slumping and Brawn then unstoppable, Istanbul was the scene for 2009's final weekend of Button domination.
