The Blitz 2

The Blitz 2 is a two-seater buggy with minimum bodywork offering a very easy build due to the simplicity of the design. The donor car for the Blitz 2 is the (A-Series engine – sizes up to 1275cc) mini, which sold in its millions throughout the world, suitable models are 1976 onwards. A good second hand mini can be purchased for as little as £250 with a MOT.

Handling
The design of the Blitz 2 moves the engine from the front of the original mini into the rear of the Blitz chassis making the Blitz 2 a mid mounted engine buggy for the ultimate in traction, handling and stability. The mini engine in the donor car is located on a sub-frame which is taken out as a complete unit and bolted straight into the rear of the Blitz chassis, saving the need to realign engine mounts, drive hubs and associated running gear.

The Blitz 2 is a very impressive performer, whether blasting along a dirt track, an open field or climbing a steep slippery slope with the custom made off road wheels, the Blitz takes it all in its stride with abilities to spare. The Blitz can easily be made road legal and has passed the full current SVA test. Full details are covered in the assembly manual. Its lightweight nature and all round independent suspension ensure it soaks up the cruellest of bumps on the roughest of surfaces. The mid engine, rear wheel drive layout ensures that the Blitz really digs its heels in when the going gets tough.

The Chassis
The front of the Buggy uses a complete set of Mini front suspension, hubs, brakes and steering rack. The sub-frame is not needed at the front as the Blitz 2 frame duplicates all mounting points for the suspension. Due to the front of the Blitz 2 being much lighter than the Mini the rubber suspension is too hard, therefore a pair of custom made adjustable coil-over shock absorbers is used.

Options, upgrades & accessories
Due to the popularity of the mini there is a vast range of after market performance and consumable parts (brake shoes, pads, exhaust etc) are readily available of the shelf. Blitzworld have put together a list of popular accessories used on the Blitz 2.

·  Upgraded front coil over suspension
·  Front bumper
·  Carbon fibre effect mudguards
·  Full light kit
·  Up rated rear adjustable suspension shock absorbers
·  On road alloy wheels and tyres
·  Off road wheels and tyres

The Chassis
The Blitz 2 chassis is immensely strong and of space frame construction featuring a fully integrated roll over cage, (in case the worst should happen), and is constructed from M.I.G. welded 42.5mm diameter x 3.0mm CHS to BS 1387 steel. It is fully jig drilled and bracketed to ensure a straightforward transfer of components from the Mini; for example the engine, gearbox, suspension, steering, instruments and pedal assembly etc.

Knowledge
The BLITZ is extremely car like to drive, and therefore educational. Not only does it save a small fortune by doing the assembling yourself, but it also gives your assistant/offspring a far greater insight into the workings of motor vehicles than simply sitting in a ready made kart and driving it. The Blitz also teaches them the skill of gear changing and clutch control giving your children advance knowledge before risking them with the family pride and joy.
