I've fitted a new clutch plate and now I can't select gear when engine is running :(
If I pump clutch a few times i can get gears.
I've fitted new master cylinder but it hasn't helped.
Any one got any ideas

When you push the clutch pedal does the slave cylinder move? Have you adjusted the slave cylinder arm left, long time since I had an A series, but I'm sure there is some adjustment & you have to sort some clearance out or something like that.

Or is it possible to put the plate in the wrong way around?

Slave cylinder arm is moving when pedal is pressed , and clutch plate is fitted correct.
If I pump pedal the slave pushes out a fraction more & I can select gears.
I've been told to take metal rod out of slave cylinder , put a 1/4 drive socket into housing & replace bar.
Apparently this will step it put enough...... Worth trying I suppose

Alan is right, you need to ensure the clutch throw out adjustment is right or you have a problem. It just needs setting with feeler gauges to the specification in a Haynes manual.
