*** Phat Ass ***

My bro went up to ToyotaGT today to check on his MR2 engine rebuild and while he was there he kindly got a few snaps for me of the buggy :D

Looks like they have been cracking on with it again this week and her Ass is starting to get PHAT. My bro says it has almost the same wheelbase as a MR2 but looks alot smaller because there are no panels to it.

Anyway here are the pictures..............

The last picture makes it look so mean now with the extra size :)

Obviously there will be extra strengthening to be added and the chassis needs to be put back together fully but she's starting to get there now :)

What do people think?

*** Small Update ***

Last Saturday i managed to get up to TGT and have a little look round the car and get a few bits painted, i didn't bother painting loads of it as he still has some welding to do on the frame. its getting there though, although still a long way off! I believe he may have done some more this week but i didn't get a chance to speak to him before he went on holiday :(

4923_229266350472_587840472_7459524_3443517_n.jpg

Sort of looks alot more racey now and should go some when its done.

Well James is on Holiday now for 2 weeks so no more update for a little bit but i have managed to sort a few things out this week......

Firstly i ordered up some hardened 7/16 bolts for the harnesses and turned up some inserts on the Lathe that will be welded into the rear bar to secure the harnesses.

4923_229266355472_587840472_7459525_4129253_n.jpg

Went to my local Halfrauds and they where selling off alot of stuff, picked up a new K&N induction kit for a vauxhall corsa but its a nice size filter so will be ideal for the beast for the moment, only reduced because the box looed tatty, £15!!!!! bargain

4923_229266370472_587840472_7459527_2554019_n.jpg

Few weeks ago i got a few little bits at the Japanese Tunning show, Exhaust wrap and metal ties £12 and some rather nice roll cage padding, 2 metres £10 :)

4923_229266380472_587840472_7459529_4948218_n.jpg

My bro had some spare heat shield material lying about so he has given me the remainder, had a look and there is about 2 metres of the stuff!!! nearly £60 in value :) He is also changing his oil cooler setup so he has given me his old Setrab 10 row cooler free of charge :)

Also bought a RX7 top mount intercooler on ebay although im not sure if i will be using it yet?

Not much i can do now for 2 weeks until James is back and i have access to the buggy again.

*** Another Update ***

Well the guys are back from their holiday so i went up there today to have a little look at the progress. Its all looking good and they have started offering up the engine and looking at fixing the engine mounts in place.

Had a little talk about a few things and got a few more things sorted out. Including the exhaust, keeping the carbon bike can for the moment and lookig at routing it over the engine rather than under. This means that it will be increadibly short, pipework will only be about 300mm long with only one bend and then the rear can :D Have a look at the pictures, i have roughly placed the exhaust where it will go.

6053_237377995472_587840472_7687393_5047854_n.jpg

This picture shows how short the pipework will be. Exhaust will come straight from the turbo and join onto the rear of the bike can, with no cat of cousre :)

6053_237378035472_587840472_7687400_4376096_n.jpg

Anyway, its getting there but bit slower than i thought beacuse of my tight funds. The guys at TGT have been spot on and have been working at an exceptional pace. However the buggy won't be ready for JAE unfortunately as its needed alot of extra work and i don't currently have the funds to fund it at the pace they can work at :(

Anyway what do people think? comments welcome as always

*** Update ***

I know updates on this slowed off for a little while but its all back on now as i really want this thing done. Plus im in a little race with Max so this has helped me get motivated and get on with it  ;D

Went up to TGT yesterday and spoke with James, he was welding the engine mounts in place when i turned up and hopefully engine will be in its final place in a few days. Meaning the next stage will be to get the custom drive shafts made up :D

Had a little talk and im going back to a front mounted radiator, best option really as there is limited room at the back, even though it has been extended. Battery will be getting moved to the rear and a fiat chinqy rad will be used up front as its PERFECT size and should easily be enough to cool it. Chinqy rad will be on order in the next few days. Also im going to build in a storage compartment next to the fuel cell at the back to house a few things, fire extinguisher etc

On my way up to TGT yesterday i stopped of at a company called Xsport racing in basingstoke and had a little talk about some custom carbon/fibreglass parts.............watch this space :p
While i was there i borrowed a fibreglass vent and checked the fitment on the buggy. Looks good and will help vent some air to the engine and the oil cooler at the rear.

I would have taken some pictures but my camera on my phone was playing up so didn't really have a chance. The second i get home it starts working again!!!! time for a new phone me thinks!

Also my new seats arrived, god they are sexual. Custom made in white as black wouldn't be very good in hot weather. These things are mega light, roughly 4.5kg per seat. Can easily be picked up with one finger. Didn't bother with the padding as im intending on making something later. They have mounting points already built into the floor so they just bolt straight in.

anyway, Will let the pictures do the talking........

*** Update Time ***

Got a few parts bought, a few on order and some to soon be on order and follow later.

Firstly got the new rear side vents ordered up from Xsport in basingstoke and they arrived early this week, need a little work but will sort these out soon and nothing too bad. These are being used to vent some air to a oil cooler and generally just cool the engine a bit.

6773_276383730472_587840472_8662589_6464198_n.jpg

6773_276383735472_587840472_8662590_4576340_n.jpg

Next came the Fiat Chinqy rad, now being mounted at the front of the car. Its only small i know but will have a couple of small spal fans added to the rear of it to help draw the air through it. Fits at the front of the car nice and snug though :D

6773_276383740472_587840472_8662591_4191825_n.jpg

6773_276383745472_587840472_8662592_5254688_n.jpg

6773_276383755472_587840472_8662593_378001_n.jpg

My bro also gave me some Pajero indicators that he never used on his supra project so these will probably end up being molded into the custom front nosecone i will be making? This will mean that the arch's won't have to have the indicators mounted into them then and i can keep the nice clean lines.

6773_276383765472_587840472_8662594_3616800_n.jpg

Then today was spent moving the buggy to its new home for the foreseable future. TGT are moving and soon to be changing their name as they are going to start doing all Japanese cars rather than specialising in just Toyota's.

Got the buggy out and on the trailer, this is the first time any of us has seen it outside with its new fat ass and to be honest i think it looks LOADS meaner and has a more racing look about it. Ignore the camber on the rear for the moment, the rear hasn't been fully finished yet so looks a bit low/crazy angles. Anyway, tell me what you think of the car now?

6773_276383770472_587840472_8662595_7629804_n.jpg

This picture really shows the profile of the car now, looks great, if i do say so myself :D

6773_276383775472_587840472_8662596_4431497_n.jpg

Back still needs some work, including a rear crash bar/light unit. not too sure what yet though??

6773_276383795472_587840472_8662597_4333977_n.jpg

Got it moved 10 or so miles down the road to its new HUGE home, makes the thing look even smaller when you see it inside the place. The glanza in the picture belongs to one of the guys that works at TGT.

6773_276383805472_587840472_8662598_8306579_n.jpg

Gives you some idea of the size of their new place

6773_276383810472_587840472_8662599_990887_n.jpg

Buggy won't be worked on now for a little while as they have alot of stuff to move but i have said i have the money now to get back on it so engine/wiring/driveshaftwill be very soon :)

Also have ordered a Apexi turbo timer and should be here next week and will be ordering the powerflex poly engine mounts in the next few days along with a load more steel to finish off the frame.

thats it for the moment, any comments always welcome

*** Update ***

Got up to TGT to measure/check a few things on the buggy. They are going to be mega busy moving premesis and getting ready for JAE so think they may not get anything done this month, can't blame them really. However it will be back on next month and i will have more cash to fuel the work :D

I have started ordering a few more bits and they are slowly turning up, first was my race tow strap. Nice and light as there is not much to it but will easily pull the buggy if i get stuck in the gravel traps :D

9630_282104610472_587840472_8787204_5976651_n.jpg

Started looking at making up the induction pipework and location for the induction kit, Filter will be mounted in the side compartment and stick out the side of the car. This means it will be in direct air flow so should stay nice and cool :D you will be able to see the turbo in the first pic so it should be relatively short pipework which is good. Im thinking about relocating the oil filter and a oil cooler to the other vent on the side.

Also measured up a few bits on the front and im going to start looking at parts to start fixing the radiator in place and coolant pipework. :D Here is what the Fiat Chinqy rad looks like on the front, almost perfect fitment. The hoses coming off the rad will have to bend back around as they are quite close to the edge of the car but should be ok, and before anyone says the battery will be going to the rear of the car.

As always people, comments are greatly recieved. :D

*** Update ***

Well as i haven't updated this in absolute ages i thought it only fair to add a few words.

Work has been very slow on this, in fact its gone backwards its been that slow and parts have actually come off the buggy.

My Apexi Turbo timmer turned up recently and after 3 weeks wait i finally got my set up Powerflex Poly Engine mounts.

9630_309251760472_587840472_9266063_8100244_n.jpg

Also another set of  michelin racing slicks arived last week and will soon be ordering the rear wheels. Should look so good with the deep dish wheels all round.

I have also bought a pair of Gaz adjustable coilovers for the front and these will be turning up any day now. Im converting the whole car to coilovers as the mini suspension setup is basically prehistoric. Will get pictures up when i get them :)

I got the steel delivered which is being used to make the seat mounts. The seats are normally just bolted to the chequer plate floor but i want something a bit stronger so im going to have steel box section underneath to hold the seats more secure.

JDModified (previously ToyotaGT) are soon to begin work back on the buggy after they moved premises and have expanded their workshop.

I have been talking gearbox's and it looks like the MK1 MR2 box may fit straight onto the Starlet engine. They share the same clutch so in theory should mount straight together without too much hassle but we will soon see. The MR2 box is better suited for the buggy as the gear selector mech is on the other side of the box and is designed for a rear engined car.

I have also got a quote to have the buggy shot blasted, sprayed with etch primer and then sprayed bright lime green, and it came to £300 all in. Well happy with that price and im going to be getting it sprayed sooner rather than later. Im going to get the welding done and before i start putting more bits on im going to strip it all down to the chassis and have it sprayed before the year is out :D Going to get a few more bits done at the same time. Its not any specific green, its just a green that i have chosen from their colour chart and is very similar to Kawasaki Green, just ever so slightly different.

I have also have designs i drew up months ago for a adjustable rear wing for the back of the car and as we are getting some steel laser cut at work im adding this to the job so will have that made up and test fitted very soon.

I know its not much of an update but felt i should add a few words as this has been left for far too long.

Comments always welcome people..........

**** Mini Update *****

Well after my hospital check up on wednesday i got back to work and these arrived 10 minutes later. :D Thanks again Steve.

9630_314978890472_587840472_9342121_5885507_n.jpg

These are the coilovers for the front of the buggy, wasn't going to buy them just yet but when people are selling them slightly cheaper than what it would cost me then i can't resist and gave in to temptation. The coilover kit for the rear will be on order very soon.

Also the steel that i need laser cutting for the rear adjustable spoiler design is currently being made up and should have this with me very soon.

Hopefully next weekend i will get a full day working on the buggy and actually get something done, its been far too long now with no progress so im keen to crack on with it.

On another side note, my hospital check up was not good news! I was born with a dodgy aortic valve on my heart and they have been keeping an eye on it and the check up showed that it has got considerably worse since last time. I have been told that it needs to be replaced with a carbon fibre valve soon! So after christmas i will be going in for surgery. This means im going to be off work for 3 months and not allowed to do proper work for an additional 6-8 weeks. Meaning that work i can do myself will stop on the buggy. However it shouldn't stop completely as because im not able to work or do anything then im not spending money on getting to work/lunch/going out etc. Meaning i can put some more money towards getting other parts made/ on order. Hopefully won't effect the build too much, although my health comes first of course  ;D

*** little update ***

As i posted before i was going to get up to JDModified and do some work on the buggy today but unfortunately it was not possible as James wasn't about for the day so couldn't get to the buggy :(

Instead i went to work and cracked on with a few little bits:

The metal for the adjustable spoiler arrived on Friday so i spent a few hours today getting the bits welded up and it looks like a keeper. The spoiler brackets get welded to the top roll bar piece on the back and should be more than enough to support the rear spoiler piece. They are adjustable as well so the angle can be changed to fine tune the downforce supplied to the back. I will be making something similar for the front and will also have a rear lower diffuser added later.

Here's the pics.

spoiler pieces.

inserts welded in and ground off.
8722_320889565472_587840472_9423291_7303022_n.jpg

pretty much there, still needs a little finishing but this will be done before it goes to paint with the rest of the car.

8722_320889585472_587840472_9423293_4471372_n.jpg

Here's a little mock up of what it will look like, will be using a tinted green acrylic so you can see through the spoiler and gives an idea of the level of adustment available.
8722_320889595472_587840472_9423294_936541_n.jpg

8722_320889600472_587840472_9423295_4860026_n.jpg

Not going to order the acrlic just yet as don't want it getting damaged before i need it. Im also considering using the same tinted green acrylic for the side of the Demon so you can almost see through the car. Then having the sponsor logo's/decals etched into the panels so they are 'ghosted'.

Have also found a 40lt fuel cell that will be ordered up next month. It doesn't come with a locking fuel cap as they expect you to fit it into a car where its secure but i will need to adapt a locking fuel cap onto it. I did buy a locking fuel cap off of a Honda motorbike and it may be able to be adapted to fit the fuel cell. It is even hinged so it doen't come away from the car (as per IVA regs :D ). Keys even stay in the cap until its locked back in position, which is the other requirment if its not tethered.

8722_320889560472_587840472_9423290_3702891_n.jpg

I have also ordered the other 2 Deep dish Ultralite wheels that are required for the rear of the buggy and they should be here next week with any luck and will be on in 2 weeks time.

I won't be able to get to the buggy for 2 weeks now as im going to look around Williams F1 test facility next weekend :D not turning that down!!!!!

I have however now 'booked' the buggy in to have the chassis finished off, seat fixings made and the final rear roll cage parts added. This should be done within the next 2 weeks and then comes the coilover work.

As always people comments are greatly recieved and help me to work out parts that need attention so any comments/questions/concerns please ask away.

*** Update time ***

Well i got up to JDModoified yesterday and got a few bits sorted on the car :D

I arrived to find that they have now got the Starlet engine properly sat in its final location and everything is now in and secure. The engine is properly secured and doesn't move at all. They have added some bars across the back to strengthen the buggy and protect in a rear end crash. The old light mounts have been cut off and im going to have some lower light units mounted under the top bar at the back. Already checked the IVA manual and there is no problems having them mounted there  :D The rear subframe is now almost there, just a few minor welding/cleaning up bits and some new brackets for the coilover conversion and its all good. Im also changing the plates that the subframe top mounts bolt to the chassis and re-enforcing them.

15368_336182605472_587840472_9646283_1520726_n.jpg

Then started working on the front and got the batery tray cut off and cleaned up. The radiator is getting mounted at the front so im going to move the battery out of the way and make way for the new nose cone. Also got the old crappy front suspension removed and got the springs onto the new coilovers ready to be fitted back on when i get the rest chopped off and the new bracket welded on.

While i was there i also got a few things measured up that are going to be drawn up and manufactured over the next few months. Including new rear light pods, mounting brackets, stainless exhausts etc. Work is going to slow down over christmas while funds are low and will be back on in full in the new year. I will be spending the next few months getting everything ready for the new year so the updates will keep coming, even if they are small.

I also couldn't resist the chance to get all the wheels onto the car and wow what a difference, the pictures don't really show it off to its full as the light was almost gone and i only had a chance to get a few quick snaps but you get the idea.

I also measured the width of the car at the front and the rear. Front is 153cm wide and the rear is a massive 185cm wide, PHAT ASS!!!!!!! looks mean as though in the flesh.

Comments welcome people.

*** Lights ***

Well as the work will slow ever so slightly over crimbo i decided to work on a few bits. I have paid up for 12 hours of labour but there is nothing that can be done on the buggy without me buying a few more bits.

I have decided to start looking at the rear light assemblies and getting as much done on the rear subframe as possible so that it can be finished off and broken down and sent off to paint while i finish the rest of the frame.

I never really liked the normal 'Hamburger' style rear lights on the buggy so now these have been removed and binned for some land rover light units. I much prefer these lights and to be honest i think they will look better. Plus i have the extra room now that the buggy has been widened to use them :D

I bought 2 extra stop/tail lights so they will give more effect when braking.

This layout shows how im thinking of having the lights. The rear fog and reverse lights will be either side of the number plate which will be slightly lower down than the others.

15368_340279265472_587840472_9737051_8205902_n.jpg

Quickly knocked up a cardboard template to see what the light units will look like and i think it will be ok when on the car, but welcome to oppinions people???

Hopefully going to get the steel templates laser cut over the next few weeks along with some other parts i need for the beast. As the engine is sat in its final location now as well im going to start looking at getting the driveshafts made up :D

I will keep the updates coming people as it keeps me motivated to crack on with it, im sorry if it gets a bit stupid adding these small updates every now and then but helps me work out what was done when etc...

*** Mini update ****

Girlfriend gave me a few hours away from her so i got to go and check a few little bits on the buggy before i was back in my cage  :(

They have confirmed that they will get the front end cleaned up this week and the brackets removed so when im up there next saturday i can get the coilovers onto the front and the new brackets welded on :D

While i was up there i also roughly tapped the light template sinto place to see what they will look like on the buggy. I have two options really, either the lights sit above the rear bar or bellow the rear bar. To me they look better sat below (second set of pics) but let me know what you guys think. I still have to sort out placement for the rear fog and reverse ligts which i think will sit below the number plate (still fine for IVA).

lights above bar.......

I will be up there working on the buggy next saturday and if i get time i will get it outside and get some proper decent pics of it :D
any comments welcome people?!?!?

*** Update time ***

Well i got up to JDModified again and got straight on with it  :D

James managed to get the old shock mounts removed from the front of the buggy during the week which means that things went alot easier today.

The goal of the day today was to at least get the front done and the buggy back to a rolling chassis as it has been chocked at the front for the last week or so.

Started by test fitting the coilovers to see if they would actually fit and they looked like a good fit.

15859_349508350472_587840472_9863603_576709_n.jpg

15859_349508355472_587840472_9863604_7820120_n.jpg

I decided to ditch the brackets i had for the front as it would have been a bit more work and wouldn't have worked out as good as it could. I decided to use some small bits of steel angle that meant the coilovers would sit perfectly in line with the upper mounts. As the upper mounts are slightly different and one leans forward and one leans back it made sense for both the struts to have their own bracket.

Got them tacked in place and they looked like this.

15859_349508360472_587840472_9863605_3250093_n.jpg

15859_349508365472_587840472_9863606_786441_n.jpg

As you can see they don't line up with one another but they line up perfectly with the upper mounts and are central to the car so are in the correct place.

Then finished off the welding and finally after lots of faffing about now have the coilovers on the car!!!! Yay, and i think they look great. Will look good when the buggy is sprayed green as the red springs will look pretty cool.

15859_349508375472_587840472_9863607_4859273_n.jpg

15859_349508385472_587840472_9863609_2598162_n.jpg

Looks loads better i think and although i doubt it will make much difference with the front end being as light as it is anyway but made sense to do things correctly first time round. If it helps with the handling one little bit then its been worth it in my opinion.

Also in the picture above you will see the 2nd version of the rear light clusters that will now include the reverse lights in them. The rear fog will still be kept seperate and will be placed under the number plate on its own.

I also started to look very carefully at the seating position and the steering wheel position which to be honest is cack! Got the drivers side floor removed as we are going to weld in a proper frmae for the seats as we both feel that just bolting them to the chequer plate floor just isn't good enough. Seats will be fixed in a position that is comfortable for me, which is pretty much right the way back anyway :D

I cleaned up the rear roll bar a bit also as the adjustable spoiler will shortly be welded in place :)

That was it for the day, doesn't look like much but alot of things have been sorted and i have taken a few bits away that will be getting worked on over the next few weeks and then im back on with it.

I also have a couple of days holiday left and will be taking these at the beggining of december to spend thursday/friday/saturday getting on with the buggy. Plan is to get the seating in its correct place and the pedals chopped and modified. Also planning on cutting off the steering wheel mounts and dropping them down and moving them over to line up with the driver. They just don't seem to be in the correct position and im not happy with them so it needs to be addressed.

Thats it for now folks, comments always welcome.

Thanks for looking, sorry about the essay! :D

*** Update ****

Got up to JDModified yesterday and although it was a slow day a have a few other bits to update so here it is.

The last few weeks i have been working on a few bits that are now prepped and ready to be welded onto the buggy. These have been left with them and will be added in the next week or so.

The first thing was to get the harness bar made. This was a bit of guess work as i didn't have the buggy with me to check fitment. I roughly measured it and checking fitment yesterday it is pretty much spot on.

detail of the inserts before welding........
11853_364057625472_587840472_10055757_4299807_n.jpg

I Also settled on a final design for the rear light clusters and i decided to put the reverse lamps in the cluster as well. So i just need to add the rear fog, this will be placed under the number plate in the middle of the car.

This is what they looked like just after they where lazer cut out without being cleaned up.
11853_364057670472_587840472_10055763_3475865_n.jpg

I got them made from 5mm steel so that they will have a 2.5mm radius to keep mr IVA happy :D They have all been rounded off and have bolts ready for the lights to be fitted in place.

11853_364057675472_587840472_10055764_7738042_n.jpg

11853_364057685472_587840472_10055766_1034193_n.jpg

Also been working on the side vents for the rear. These came with raised strips over them which i really don't like so i decided to remove them. Im still working on these and i almost have one done but they take alot of sanding, checking, sanding again etc.

This is what they looked like when they arrived.......

11853_364057650472_587840472_10055760_6329233_n.jpg

and this is what they look like after a good sanding and a bit of primer. Loads better i think.........

11853_364057665472_587840472_10055762_6132549_n.jpg

The adjustable spoiler has also been welded in place now and doesn't look to bad to be honest. Yes the spoiler itself is MDF but it is just a jig that was used to get the correct spacing of the brackets. The finished spoiler will either be made from Carbon or green Acrylic. Not too sure yet........

11853_364057695472_587840472_10055768_3935041_n.jpg

While i was up there yesterday the only thing i really managed to get done was to grind a couple of mounts off the back that i no longer need and where in the way of where the harness bar will go. I really didn't feel 100% but had to get something done.

11853_364057700472_587840472_10055769_2150140_n.jpg

And a few more pics i got.........

11853_364057715472_587840472_10055771_8297834_n.jpg

I will be up there on the 10/11/12th of December to finish off the seating and steering. We have decided to make up some steel box section seat rails for strength rather than just bolt them to the floor and the steering position is just all wrong. Plan is to cut the steering off and lower it and move it over to make it more comfortable and in the correct position.

I have taken the radiator away with me as next on my list of things to work on is the mounts for the rad and the fan attachments.

Thats it for now people, as always im happy to answer any questions/comments. :D

*** Christmas Update ***

Well as i said in my last post i had thursday/friday off this week to work on the buggy and im really happy with what we got done. This was the last time i am working on the buggy till next year now as JDModified are closed between crimbo and the new year and i won't have a chance to get up there before hand. This doesn't mean that i will be stopping work on the buggy as i have taken measurements/pieces away with me and i have a huge amount of parts to get on with!

Anyway, when i got up there on Thursday it was great to see that James had a few hours spare during the week and he got the rear light clusters and the rear harness bar all welded in place. Gives a better idea of what the rear end will lokk like and i think it looks great, im glad i got rid of the hamburger style rear lights as they are not my cup of tea.

The aim over the 2 days was to get the seating in its correct place and get the steering coloumn removed and repositioned as im not happy with its location.

We started on the seating and working at a relaxed pace this was done and all in by the end of the first day. Now the normal way to fix the seats is to fix them through the checker plate floor but we both wanted something stronger as at the end of the day safety is a big issue with this thing!
The seats are angled inwards slightly to give more room for the centre tunnel but these will be straightened up later if there is room to do so.

11853_379643755472_587840472_10226840_7846024_n.jpg

Then yesterday we turned our attention to sorting out the steering. I was a bit hesitant to cut the steering off but after the outcome i am so happy we did. The whole steering assembly was removed and cut away from the car and pedal box. After it was all cleaned up i then sat in the buggy and held the steering assembly at a comfortable position. Everthing was measured up and a new connecting piece made up. Then with me sat in the car holding it in the correct position it was tacked and then fully welded up.

While i was there talk turned to gear linkages and that was clearly on the list as one of the next things to work on. James mentioned that the mr2 linkage was work a look at as of course they are designed for a rear engined car and he said that the throw was relatively short also. There was a mr2 in the workshop that is being broken down for parts and james has very kindly given me the gear linkage and cables from it for free!

I roughly positioned these in the car and all i can say is wow!!!!! Its a perfect fit between the seats and the position we have planned for it is just spot on. Its right next to the steering wheel and changing gear will mean i have to move my hand off the wheel about 6 inch's if that. I tried the seating position and all i can say is i am actually in love with this thing now! The seating position is just amazing, i can honestly say its the best seating position that i have tried. Its very snug and everything is just perfect.

here are a few pictures to give you an idea of what its like.......

11853_379643800472_587840472_10226847_4693114_n.jpg

The whole area back from the gearlinkage will be boxed in to create a armrest/handbrake area taht will just improve the driving position even more.

Thats it for pictures, for now people :D Im going to my work workshop today to begin making up the frame for the gear linkage and handbrake and will post pics when i have them.

While i was up there i also got the radiator measured up and will complete the framework over christmas (this has already been underway) and i have the arch brackets welded up as well so i can begin buying up the arch's and getting them ready for fitting. I have a few plans for the arch's that are a bit different from the norm in terms of fitting them and im hoping that it will work out but we will see.

Also the other day i managed to get some Gaz coilover brackets/springs for the rear coilovers for an absolute bargain on ebay :D So i can continue getting the bits laser cut that i need to finish off the welding to the rear chassis.

As always people any comments/questions are always greatly helpfull. :D

*** More christmas Update ***

Well the parts just keep rolling in :)

Yesterday the mini Gaz coilover springs and brackets arrived. Managed to pick these up from ebay for about £33. Don't have any bolts with them but i will get some later along with the coilovers themselves. Didn't realise how big these brackets are, they are HUGE.

11853_385748635472_587840472_10275572_5826899_n.jpg

Plan is to get a plate laser cut that will weld to the chassis and the coilover bracket will simply bolt straight to it. i have alot more parts to get laser cut so will do these together and get them all done at the same time to save a few £.

One of the jobs i have been wanting to get underway is the tower for the gear linkage and the handbrake housing. I decided to stay on after work and i pretty much got the most of it made up. The handbrake part i will begin making tomorrow and will weld onto the back of this part. Its going to be close as the gear linkage cables need to bend down as they come out the back so there is room for the handbrake. There is also room down the centre to run the radiator pipes so im going to run these down the inside of the buggy to keep the underside flat.

Main parts made up..........
11853_385748575472_587840472_10275566_3725734_n.jpg

Few bits welded together........

roughly in place with the MR2 linkage added.......

11853_385748610472_587840472_10275569_4433006_n.jpg

Tacked in place, will be fully welded tomorrow.....
11853_385748620472_587840472_10275571_5392254_n.jpg

Its designed to fit straight over the centre channel that runs down the buggy and means that there is plenty of room for the coolant pipes down the middle.

I still need to try and source some longer gear linkage cables and i don't know if there is any company's out there that custom  make them??? if anyone knows please contact me. My other option is to join the mr2 cables with the starlet ones but means that there will be a fiddly join area and i would prefer one continueous cable.

I have also bought a air filter relocation pipe that i need for the induction kit and i also have a adjustable cam pulley on order from the states. :) I love waiting on all the parts, most of the time i have so much on order that i forget what i have actually bought so its like christmas when the parts arrive and i don't know whats in the box :)

Will keep the updates coming over christmas before im in for my heart op as i want to get as much done as possible now before the work stops for a little bit.

comments always welcome :D

*** Even more crimbo update ***

i need this thing built ASAP!!!!!!!! its driving me mad, im going to finish this thing if it kills me, although im sure the first drive will do that :)

I have been trying to get as much of this done now while i can, after the op im going to be housebound and i know its going to be driving me mad so have to do as much as i can while i can.

Anyway, after getting the gear tower made up the other day i managed o get the handbrake part that attaches to the rear of it made up today. I knew the space was going to be tight and it looks like i was right, looks like a nice tidy unit and once i have made up a nice cover for it, it will look loads better.

Started by making the main frame piece and the tabs that hold the handbrake in place.
11853_391029625472_587840472_10308768_1105695_n.jpg

with the handbrake added.........
11853_391029650472_587840472_10308769_7550678_n.jpg

There is not much space at the bottom and i will probably need to modify the bottom and extend it down to clear the bar at the back.
11853_391029680472_587840472_10308770_7139578_n.jpg

Here is what it looks like welded onto the gear tower. Will need  a few legs added to it that will strengthen it all up when welded up in the buggy but its pretty much there. You can see how tight it is for space but there is plenty of room for the coolant pipes along the bottom as well. There will be a cover made up that will cover the gear linkage cables and create a nice recess for the handbrake.

11853_391029690472_587840472_10308771_1655661_n.jpg

The back view shows just how tight it will be...

11853_391029710472_587840472_10308772_1766396_n.jpg

and all pretty much there........ :)
11853_391031445472_587840472_10308785_4311848_n.jpg

I know its not much but it makes me happy adding these updates.

Money is tight with christmas and everything but in the new year im going to go nuts with parts just before i have the operation as i will only be stuck at home anyway so i can have a second christmas with lots more presents.

*** Update ***

Don't worry people, im still going strong on this!!!! ;D Not been an update in a while but trust me i have been cracking on with this.............

Well some parts have started arriving yesterday......

From Jay (UKSC), HKS actuator, ngk leads and autogauge volt gauge. The volt gauge is pretty beat up but its only a temporary one till i decide what gauges to go for and so i can knock up a custom gauge holder.

17953_450439215472_587840472_10860208_8293599_n.jpg

Yesterday i also decided to order up a couple of small slimline sucker fans that will be mounted to front mount radiator to help with cooling. Having the front mount rad means these will probably never get used but for that extra safety factor....

here is the radiator attached to the steel frame.

17953_450439175472_587840472_10860205_8253803_n.jpg

and with the 2x 9' fans roughly in place........going to easily cool it now me thinks. lol

17953_450439185472_587840472_10860206_1313083_n.jpg

17953_450439205472_587840472_10860207_4634493_n.jpg

Need to modify the radiator frame slightly and add some brackets to fix the fans in place but i have picked up the steel on the way home and will crack on with that tomorrow  Planning to add a thermostat switch to the radiator so the fans will switch on when the temp gets to a certain point, although i doubt they will come on much to be honest.

Feels like there is a huge hole in my wallet and all my money is just falling out, then parts keep arriving and i remember where all the money is going..............

Rear Coilovers arrived today, not long now and i will have coilovers all round which should help out so much. Can't wait to get rid of the stupid mini rubber dohnut suspension setup. The coilovers look quite cute but should do the job a treat :D

17953_452563610472_587840472_10873271_4828488_n.jpg

With the springs i bought before......

17953_452563630472_587840472_10873272_2522578_n.jpg

And roughly placed on the huge brackets i have

17953_452563640472_587840472_10873273_105625_n.jpg

I just need to sorce some imperial bolts to fix the coilovers in place and i should be well away.

I also have my name down on a group buy on the starlet club for a custom made inlet manifold, larger throttle body, uprated fuel rail and fpr. This is made by a company called race tech and they are amazing at what they do. Costing me about £650 but going to be well worth it and will look sooooooo nice! will be arriving late feb with any luck.

Saturday i drove all the way to Barton on sea, Weston super maye and picked up my LSD gearbox, 45k on it and looks mint! Picked this up for £200 which was a complete bargain. should help me get the power down better and im sure will be worth every penny. Means the driveshafts will be equal length now as well which will look neater.

Also a member from UKSC has managed to find a company that had a mountain of old fire extinguishers lying about and have sold me 2 alloy 5kg ones for £5 each, just waiting on them now but should be here next week. This will make for an interesting fuel tank  ;D

Have a adjustable cam pulley coming from the states as well and is probably sat in the customs office as we speak.

Hopefully if the gearbox gets fitted and these are fitted in the next few weeks i can get the remaining chassis parts laser cut and then its a case of get the driveshafts made up and then start connecting the engine wiring, cooloing, cables and its almost there as far as starting her up!!!!!

Then come all the boring IVA crap.............  :-X

As always people i would love to hear your comments :D

*** Update ***

Well got up to TGT and got a little done today, not much but im happy :)

First had a little look at the rear suspension and got the old stuff off and in the bin :D and then the new sexy coilovers on and roughly offered up. Need to get some more bits laser cut to create a proper mounting point for the upper bracekts but it looks so much better with these on there.

Then a member of UKSC kindly came down to deliver the 2x5kg fire extinguishers that i bought. Wouldn't of been able to get them without all the help he put in and i am truelly gratefull.

Also managed to get the centre consol offered into the car and the old handbrake gabbins ground off. and then the front radiator frame welded onto the buggy. Plan is to cut the rounded part off the nosecone and then custom make a new piece that will extend down and round the radiator. Should hopefully make it look alot meaner at the front.

Just as TGT where clossing up i managed to get the buggy rolled out into the light to get some pics of it outside. When i stand back and look at it outside it just looks imense! I can't wait to get this thing done and on the road :D

Here are some better pics (sorry about the quality of some of them) of the Demon. You can really appreciate how insane this thing is going to be.

Did a quick photoshop with a caterham nosecone on the front. Not too sure what i think about it but might try and find a cheap nosecone i can experiment with, and cut up :)
