having read of the restrictions on where you can place the tank so as to comply with the iva l was amuzed to see what manafactures can get away with, heres a chinese buggy with the tank just strapped on the back of the engine, do manafacturers not have to meet the same standards ?

those buggies are "type approved" so dont go through the same test....

agreed but you would think they still had to be of the same standard, not a case of "if you are going to make lots them then any old tank strapped on anywhere will be fine"

anyway l dident like the tank hanging out the back and being the first thing someone runs into so l made a new one to fit behind the seats
20"x20"x3" which l think is 5 gallons ?

The point is they get type approval in a country which uses different regulations to us, but our pen pushers being so stupid accept their type approval even though it flies in the face of our own,

Nice tank mod, much safer!

Not like the Mech Brown saw (in the back ground) with no guard on it :D

that would suggest that my efforts to polish my new clear lexan blade gaurd to a crystal clear finish with mirror polish were successful then as you can hardly see it in that pic

thank you danny

the quest for more power has begun lol,
present engine and box is from a early nissan, K10 l belive its called, it has a whopping 65 bhp
l just won a K11 micra which is the next shape that looks like a cartoon car, its a 1.3 16v twin cam with CVT gearbox
l paid £99 for the car once l have pulled the engine and box l will weigh the rear in, dont know what the price of scrap is these days but would be nice if
l got £99 for it lol

this should just be a simple engine swap one weekend as its the same block etc so all the mounts should line up

no such thing as an "easy" job lol

the engine and box in the buggy is the old shape micra K10, it measures 28" wide complete with its 4 speed gearbox, the later k11 engine and box measure more like 32" wide and thats to big to fit in between the chassis rails :( so not wanting my buggy off the road for extensive mods l think the way forward is to biuld another look alike buggy, fancy that copying a chinese copy ;D well more or less l will just use it as a baseline and use car components, might as well switch to trailing arm rear suspension as double A arm is very space hungry and stops you using a wide engine and box

Brilliant job on the fuel tank! :)

I'm in the process of making one for my Freestyle, can I ask what material you used and also what the trick is for welding it up leak free?!!

hi Lilspeed

l used 2mm steel rather than ally for my tank, l found it helps to overlap the joins rather than but join that way you can get more heat into it with out blowing through
once l had worked my way round with the welding l filled it with water and found to small pin holes so l just tipped the water out and welded up the pin holes, job done
l know its easy to say but try and fold as much of the tank up as possible just leaving a bare minimum of joints to be welded but obviously you need to find some one with a pressbrake or box and pan folder, probabaly worth 15 or 20 quid to get a metal shop to fold one up for you

cheers Andy
