Acewell digital dash

Hi All

I think I am resurrecting something that has been mentioned a few times but I thought I would mention it again just in case anyone has done it recently.

Has anyone fitted one of the Acewell digital dash clusters recently as I think this is going to be the best option for me other than getting a custom length speedo cable and separate gauges for oil pressure, water temp etc.

looking at their website has anyone got any recommendations on which one to go for as there are so many and they all have variations but im guessing one with dash warning lights is a must and then speedo and tacho and then temps and pressures.

has anyone got any idea which of their speedo drives that converts the gearbox output to digital to match the dash unit is the correct one as again there are a few options and from what I can se there are a few that could work and before I try and order one I wanted to get anybody's knowledge on the product before I got burned and purchased the wrong one!

And which of their temp sensors are the correct ones for an A series to get the digital signal for the dash unit.

any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Few of us used to have Acewell's we used to use a unit that you cut the speedo cable & then added this unit it was designed for rally cars for their timing gear, it was a Terratrip, if you do a search for Acewell it shows a few links but most are no longer active. However Demon Thieves sell them https://www.demon-tweeks.com/terratrip-speed-sensor-probes-249606/?sku=TERT006 you can of course use magnets on the hub or driveshaft but I never had a lot of success with them.
 
Thanks that gives me something to look into for sure.

I wasn't keen on the hall sensors as they have too many hot and miss results and I want to do it once properly not messing about with it all the time.

Acewell have loads of Speedo options so I will look at those aswell and see if any are a match for the mini Speedo drive and if not I will look at that terratrip part as an option as well

They do look good value and take away alot of the faff of putting in multiple gauges

I saw that but I couldn't work out if that was only matched to their digital version of the classic mini big centre Speedo and for the price I didn't want to risk it and find it was only compatible with their kit thats in the £400 region! even tho it's about the right price for an analogue to digital Speedo converter.
 
Don't think it's anything special, it looks like a standard hall sensor, 12v, 0v & signal, you would just need to find out how many revolutions per mph which is easy now with GPS, then program it into the Acewell
 
Acewell is very good, you will need to be able to quickly tweak it on the rolling road at IVA if it is out. I had to, if not it will be a retest fee.

All details on my build thread. The IVA manual tells you which road icons and tell tales you need. Anything other than acewell will be troublesome to tweak.

Great that's a good help

I think that's what I'm going to go with I just need to sort the correct way to get the gearbox Speedo drive to the front of the chassis then I can choose the right dash unit with the right amount of warning lights and everything that's needed like you say checking with the IVA book.
 
The rear axle is more reliable, have a look how I mounted the magnet on the drive shaft with a collar and the pickup etc easy to make the wires for the speedo the right length.

You will set yourself up for potential failure and huge cost if you use gearbox drive. The test is only 4 hours max and there is a lot to get through, they don't allow you mutch tinker time on the rolling road. 😀

Tbh, just copy everything I did, Justin did and Alistair did and you can pretty much guarantee a pass, I'll be surprised if you don't get one first time. You can modify everything afterwards except maybe the led modules!!

It will save you time and dollar. It's all been done before multiple times.

I will do that's my plan over the weekend hopefully and take screenshots and notes as it's sometimes difficult to find the bit I need but I'm going to knuckle down and get myself organised.
