Pictures would help with the reservoirs, steering wheel, can the seat go down rather than wheel go up?

Hi

Taken a photo and trying to upload !!

Seats are flat on the floor , so cant lower them .
Has anyone raised the steering column before ?

Cheers

The brake unit is a Girling 70 and had only a single outlet so both rear and fronts are fed from a tee .
I think it should be a dual unit and if so what is the unit to use ?
I’m guessing the dual one failed and it’s been replaced with the 70 !!!

Thanks Leigh

I have the same issue, the clutch and brake M/C are very close together and difficult to get the cap off the clutch M/C. Not impossible as the brake reservoir can flex over on its seals. Pic below of my setup.

The Brake M/C as Danny says is the yellow tag mini M/C link for ref.

Scrap the reservoir and fit one from a Fiat Chichento or Cinquecento, there were a couple on ebay recently but can't see them now. I was told the port pitch is the same as a Sierra reservoir too but because of the Lotus 7 replicas these are very rare. Another option is a remote reservoir but you would need to fit a bracket etc. Kit spares sell these.

For interest the clutch M/C and res is a Land Rover variant

To give more leg room and get the wheel off your knees an option is fit a smaller steering wheel, one here with boss.

Hi Lilspeed
Just up the road then , are you running an A series engine ?
If so do you have an overheating issues ?
I don’t have my new buggy yet but had this issue on my old buggy !!
Do you fancy meeting up at some point ? No worries if your busy . It would be good to see what others have done modifications wise !
Regards Leigh

Yes, still running A series despite what Danny tells me to do!! :D
And yes, it overheats - but only when the weather is really hot now I've made some changes.
I have a 2 blade Morris Minor fan, which draws air through the rad instead of blowing (needed cutting down to fit). And a big aluminium rad.
I find holding a high idle helps to get the coolant/air flowing if it gets hot in traffic.
Yes I'd be up for meeting up.
Would have to be fairly soon, as I said I'm a fair weather buggy driver so it'll probably get sorned the end of the month!!

Hi Justin, good to see you are still about and have your buggy :)

Regarding cooling, I have no issues with overheating.

I fitted one of these,

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-Mini ... SwtsBdyX75

I fitted a temp sensor in the threaded hole at the bottom to switch the electric fan with a manual override switch. Driving around in the summer with an ambient heat of over 30 degrees I could see the temp get up to about 96 - 98 degrees C but never got to 100 which is when I would have turned the fan on manually. That was a really good test, usually it doesn't get much above 88 degrees.

MG Midgit Sucky fan opposed to the standard mini blow fan.

Here you can see the alloy rad with elec fan and the tip from Justin passed down from Mr Smart was to fit an expansion bottle so the system doesn't loose any water.

Thanks for all the info , I’ve bought the m/c this morning and I am now chasing a reservoir !!
I’ve already got a small steering wheel , so I am going to lower the pedal box as it’s way too high by previous owner !! This will put the pedals lower and allow my legs to be straighter so giving me room around the steering wheel .
The cooling issue , I’m going to tackle next once I have sorted the front end .
Thanks again all

No problem, for £20 delivered I would get the MG Midget fan bought as that as that won't need cutting down to fit.

Leigh I have a brand new fan in the workshop, I uncovered it the other day whilst cleaning it out, it might only be a Mini one which is not what you want, but there is a slim chance it is a Midget one, which you can have if it is, I'm not back home until Saturday so will look at it Sunday for you & post a picture to work out which one it is.

This company seems to do several new ones, no stock on any of them, but might be worth a call/email https://www.euspares.co.uk/parts/origin ... um/9443971 Other than that there are another couple on Fleecebay that might be worth contatcing to get more information, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiat-Lancia- ... SwcP5c2Ffk or https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiat-127-105 ... Sw6nNekzAa. Failing that take the MC & go to the local scrappy & ask if you can walk around to see if you can find anything, although most don't let you do it these days.

Just a thought when I spoke to Mark not sure if it was before or after you bought, but he did say about the brakes & the change of MC, he had problems with the Yellow MC & swapped it out, I think he said that was an early Lotus one. But he may still have the old reservoir, long shot I know but might be worth a call/text

Thanks Alan , I’ll send a message to mark and ask him but I know he’s moving house so don’t want to disturb him . I’ve bought the remote reservoir but struggling to find it a home . The trouble is the M/c is still quite high , so the only place for it is in front of passenger on the windscreen rail . This will look ugly so I haven’t mounted it yet !! I gave been in contact with a guy who is breaking a fiat cinq on eBay and he is going to have a look for me to see if it’s the right one . Fingers crossed !!
Sorry for late reply’s I’ve not been on the forum all week as I’ve been in the garage !!
Since the buggy has been parked for a week I’ve got 2 little oil puddles . I have traced them to be a drip from the timing chain cover and a drip from sump plug . New gaskets on way !
I’m going to do an oil change whilst in there and looking at sump plug , what oil do you guys recommend for the A series engine with mods ?
If the fan is the right one Alan then we can sort something pennies wise postage and so .

For £20 the MG fan is about the best mod to do for cooling if you do nothing else.

I knew cooling was an issue from the outset so went with decent alloy rad, electric blow fan and sucky mechanical fan. all told an excellent combo and no overheating issues to date.
