Blitz2 Vs Freestyle

Hi, I'm still researching buggys to suit my needs.
I want a roadlegal buggy that will be used on the unclassified, unmetaled roads and byways around Devon.
From what I can see the only ones tough enough will be Mini based.
What do you guys feel the pros and cons are between these two?
I think the shorter wheel base the better and reasonable ground clearance 14" plus would be good.
I have some dimensions for a Blitz2 but nothing for a Freestyle. Any help welcomed.

Well the Blitz (at work) are very good
The Freestyle (in bits, in the garage) was very good too

How would Harrry Hill decide??

FIGHT!!!!! ;D

Sorry, I can't give you dimensions as I only own one of those elastic tape measures, never gives me the right length!! ha ha ;D

Blitz parts are still available, freestyle parts have to be made yourself or scrounged!!

Surely once I have a completed freestyle all replacement parts come from a metro?
Is your Freestyle road legal?

There are a couple of specialist parts on the freestyle though, so if they break you need to be good at fabricating up a replacement  :-\

Are you sure you want 14" ground clearance that's HUGE you're not going to get anywhere that from either a Freestyle or Blitz for that kind of clearance have you thought of a Vitaraor the buggy varient?

I've got about 12.5-13" ground clearance on my Blitz2, .... 13" wheels with 185/70/13 Dunlop Mud+Snow SP3 tyres, I reckon with 14", or 15" wheels you'll get 14" clearance easily, but your wheel bearings will take a bit of a pounding, and brakes won't be as efficient on the rear. Final drive would need to be at least 3.44:1, or lower for decent all round performance though....

cant see the need for that much clearance... how much does a landrover have? not much I should think especially with teh diff hanging so low

Thanks guys. 12" clearance should be enough with good bash plates.
I'm still doing it on the bike at the moment. Broke my collar bone 9 weeks ago and am told its not healing well. (prob cause I'm still riding the bike!!!!!!)
So looking to go over to a buggy in the next year. Dont want a 4x4 cause they go anywhere and whats the point of that!
Will try and post some pics of the area later. Having trouble reducing the size (mb) of the pics.

I've always thought, although I'm probably biased that the Freestyle would/is the better on-road with occasional off-road, whereas the Blitz is the better off-road & with compromise on-road. I also think the Freestyle looks far better, but as I say I'm happy to admit being biased.

There are a few parts that are just freestyle, it's only metal though, if you bend it, it can be straightened, if you break it, it can be welded back together!!
My Freestyle was road legal, until I started my conversion, it is now sorn with no MOT.
Hoping to have it back on the road over Christmas!!! ;D

Ok, anyone know where I can get a buggy? Preferably a Freestyle but a Blitz considered.
Any condition, non runner or in bits.
Must be road registered.
Distance no problem.

Check the bay of E!!

Hi, Laner.....
I think BOTH Freestyles and Blitz2's would cope admirably with all of the terrain shown in your pics, if prepared suitably...... in my opinion the Blitz2 does seem to be made from stronger tubing, (larger diameter -42mm, and thicker wall-thickness, 3.5-4mm, if I remeber correctly, and apparently requires a force of around 12 tons to deform or bend it!)... Both have their positves and negatives, personally I like the novel front suspension design on the Freestyle, but I like the fact the Blitz2 is a little longer, in it's overall length, meaning less 'twitchy' handling on the road, also this allows for a decent sized luggage rack/cage to be fitted over the engine bay, I'll try and remember my photobucket link, where you'll see my Blitz2, ... I think its pictures by buggybloke@photobucket,.or something.... if you put 'buggybloke' into the search box on photobucket you should find them, or look at them on my facebook page- Matt Tank..... go for a Blitz2, or BlitzKR3 (more engine options 1.8 K series!)
