Floor plate thickness

Just sizing up ali plate/sheet for my replacement floor, what thickness of ali have you guys gone for?  Is it thicker around the pedal area and thinner everywhere else?  Something like 3mm for the pedal area and 2mm everywhere else or is this too thick?

I've got a fully galvanised floor, though I think most others (if not all) have a galvanised plate welded into where the foot pedals are located.
