Fuel tank

My buggy came with an ill fitting inboard tank behind the seats, I am struggling getting the new fuel lines in behind the tank not insurmountable just a pain.
I have a couple of stainless steel fire extinguisher tanks that I could fit instead of the inboard tank, what do you lot of knowledgeable peeps think.
Advantage and disadvantage of both systems.

If I remember rightly your buggy already has a log book so fitting a fire extinguisher will be fine.

I can get 70 miles range out of my tank so perfect for a summer evening blat.

Be sure to mount on the off side so it doesn't block the air flow to the radiator 😃

If you want further range, then you could mount 2 extinguishers on the upper rails, as per the photo, you can then either just tee the 2 in together, or as @Steve does uses one tank then just behind the seat has a manual tap which switches the other tank on. When that buggy was mine I had a an electric solenoid with a switch on the dash to open it up.

Hi,

Just reading between the lines here, say I was looking to have a side mounted tank, would that not be ok for the IVA?

I have a tank for behind the seats which I had made a long time ago but I'm struggling to seal it off from the passenger compartment.

I wasn't thinking of using a fire extinguisher, I'll probably need to get something custom made, but any issues with having tank mounted on the side, as your photo above?

Hope your build is going well.

The fuel tank regarding the regs is a bit of a grey area and I didn't want to gamble failing on this.

Before I went for IVA Justin and Alistair had passed with an inboard behind the seats version with a cover which meant that it was a separate compartment, I drilled some holes in the floor for drainage and sealed with a gasket I made that was protected against fuel and oil

I use cad every day to design things to be manufactured so could knock up a tank and a cover and have this fabricated, which was perfect for IVA. The drawings are on my build thread. Ross now has this so he should be able to get through with that.

TBH you may well be able to mount something externally but that wasn't a risk I was prepared to take. My suggestion is behind the seats is pretty much a guaranteed pass on that front as 3 of us have had no issues. There is also very little room anywhere for anything on a Freestyle and you have to get creative!

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to respond, and so promptly, it is very much appreciated.

Yes, I think its going well generally, I've been dealing with a leaky brake master cylinder this weekend which is always fun but I think I've got to the bottom of that now.

I would prefer to keep the tank behind the seats, its much tidier that way.
I see what you've done, looks very tidy.
My issue is that the tank I have is... well... this is it:

I was trying to make the best use of the space but at the same time have given myself a rather large headache.
I have a cover for it, which is also a very interesting shape given the centre console and the passenger seatbelt position, which I might be able to make work with some adjustments. The main issue is sealing it against the engine bulkhead.
I see you have a solid sheet which makes sense, mine is made up of separate panels but I will probably revisit that arrangement.

Thanks also for providing such a comprehensive build log - I'll certainly be referring to that again!
