RADIATOR ON THE FRONT

Hi everyone,
Been toying with where to locate the rad and was wondering if anyone has gone through the trouble of locating it at the front of the Freestyle.

The bike radiator is quite compact and I can make more room by removing the battery tray (bike battery to be located at rear) just worried about all the extra water volume in the system and what effect that has on cooling. Also concerned about the nose and how to do it without upsetting the standard looks of the Freestyle front.
Any ideas on this one?

Hello,

I have often thought about adding a heater matrix to the front of the buggy.... but am not sure.

I will be just running a water hose to the front of the buggy and then back again as I feel that there is just not enough water in the system.

Does anybody have any ideas on how I can add a bleed valve or what I can use as a bleed valve?

Have a look at this post on the old site Old Site it's how Jerry did it for keeping his feet warm.

As to the R1 an issue I can think of is the waterpump may not be up to pushing the water all the way to the front. Not sure how much space you have but I would have thought a side mounted one with electric fans would be the best option. Another consideration might be to increase the size of the oil cooler as well.

Thanks Alan,
the stuff on the old forum makes interesting reading. Makes me wonder about the room under the nose cone.
I was going to make my own nose out of the left over ally sheet I have. Has onyone got the dimesions, better still a template? That would speed things up.

Danny,
Bleed nipple that will be something I will need to make. How about a piece of 25mm tube put in line with your water hose. Drill a hole 7/16 hole in it, weld a 7/16 nut over the hole. Then make a "bleed bolt" by drilling down the centre of a 7/16 both up as far as the head, then drill a small hole all the way through the bolt up near the head so the air/water can come up the bolt and out at the sides when released. Eye protection and gloves required when in use. Just a quick thought.

Hi,

An easy bleed valve is one used for household plumbing. radiator bleed valves, drain taps for radiators etc. normally well cheap if you go to a plumb center.
