Speedometer

Can anyone confirm that the speedo doesn't have to be on a driven wheel, can't find anything in the SVA manual (section 20) so intend to put it on the front offside. Only issue I see is that if i took the wheel off (puncture etc) I wouldn't have a speedo, but don't see how that affects the test as it will be working at that time.

Mines on the front and we put the sensor on the drive shaft thing (crap cant remember what its called) where the bearings are.

It is then always on the car.

Thought about that but I thought Dave had had a few problems with it there, does yours read constantly?

On our buggies, using cheapo Bike speedo's from Halfords etc, welded a tab/bracket to the hub/upright, this holds the sensor part, and welded a tab/bracket bent to a right angle onto the edge of the CV Joint "stub cup", drilled which holds the trigger magnet.
As the CV joint rotates, the magnet passes the sensor, and operates the speedo........

I fyou have the acewell one then you will have a problem with higher speeds confusing it, one sugestion is to put the magnet into the brake disk... My solution soing to be to put a magnet on the spare wheel too, as any small magnet will do. Although I have scraped the Idea of a spare wheel in favor for some tyre weld stuff (lower in weight and easier to carry) Found the spare wheel gets in the way on the back if you need to take the cover off the engine etc.
