2010 Car Trials Guide

Well after getting hooked on car trials last year Matt and I are planning to enter a lot more events this year and have been busy making some modifications to our buggy with the hope of being more competitive this year.

So in case anyone is interested in having a go here is our guide to car trials.

Firstly the following link to the BRTDA (British Rally and Trials Driver Association) has a simple guide to explain what Car Trials is all about.

http://www.btrda.com/images/uploaded/17_2256052.pdf

It is a great way to spend to spend a Sunday, having fun driving in the mud, meeting other like minded enthusiasts and using the buggy for what it was originally intended.

If you want to have a go here is what you need to do:

1. Apply for an MSA non race national B license. Cost £37 and can be done on-line at the following link: http://www.msauk.org/custom/asp/splash/competitors.asp

In order to compete against people from other clubs you need an MSA license as all events are organised under the MSA regulations. You can compete without an MSA license but you will be restricted to club sport events only so if you don’t have an MSA license you have to be a member of the club organising the event in order to enter.

2. Join a motor club that has members who participate in car trials. We have joined the Bristol Pegasus Motor Club for 2010. Reasons I joined this club are:
- firstly it cost just £9.50 to join (very cheap annual membership that can be done on-line) http://www.bristolpegasus.com

- secondly it is a member of several regional associations.
The way car trials is organised each club will put on one or two events each year. The regional associations bring the clubs together to create a regional championship. So by joining a club that is linked to several regional associations I should have lots of events to pick from.

3. Having joined the Bristol Pegasus club I can now register for the following regional car trial championships as Bristol Pegasus MC is a member of all the following regional associations:

CMSG – Cotswold Motor Sport Group - £5 registration fee for car the trial championship
http://www.cmsg.co.uk/

ACSMC – Association of Central and Southern Motor Clubs – registration is free for the car trial championship
http://www.acsmc.com/

ASWMC – Association of South Western Motor Clubs – registration is free for the car trial championship
http://www.aswmc.org.uk/

AWMMC – Association of West Midland Motor Clubs – car trial championship details not yet published
http://www.awmmc.org.uk/

All of the above car trial championships have a class 5, class E or class S which is where the Freestyle buggy can compete. The MSA regulations state that there are 4 classes and the freestyle buggy, being a rear engined kit car, does not qualify for any of them. However most clubs/associations are struggling to attract new members and for that reason they have all introduced a class for “specialsâ€

Hi,

being right bang in the middle I can see the pros and cons of both  ;D unfortunately both trials in North Wales in April don't have a class for the freestyle to enter

I have been updating the car trials schedule at :

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key= ... zZ0E&hl=en

I have entered both the Hobbs trial on the 11th April and the Spring Fling on the 25th. Would be great to have some more freestyles to compete against. If you are not sure about competing why not just come along and have a look see what goes on.
