Alternative engine cover

Anyone would think I had just got this welder for Christmas :D

Been a busy bee last Saturday & making my engine cover. It took 6 metres of 16mm box section. The hinges are 3" butt hinges with the pin taken out & a big washer welded to the end of the pin, so the whole thing can be removed for more access. I'm going to get it powder coated & then fill in the holes with meshed grill & probably painted Black or Red.

Looking good.

I've just built an alternative light wight one, needed to make it larger to house a heater matrix....

It is more of a barrel shape, and I would have taken a photo with it on the car, but I took the back end off yesterday to do some work on the engine.....

here is a photo of it.

I'm using some grill which is actualy for Plastering, found it in B&Q it is a large sheet (over 2M long) of Galvanised expanded steel for under £6

Yours looks better, and I;m sure your mesh wil llook better too, I did mine without measuring, just based no what looked right so it's not quite symetrical, but it is light and it fits....

I used 10mm tube which was easy enought to bend by hand but strong enought not to change shape once welded together.

My cover is a bit too big even for my purposes but if it does the job I'm happy.
