Cylinder head question

Hello,
I am looking at buying a better cylinder head and there seems to be either 11 stud or 9 stud.

What difference does it make? do both fit both? ie does a 9 stud head fit an 11 stud block?

I am a little bit confused

Hi,

The 11 stud uses the same pattern as the 9 stud, but with a stud at each end of the head. the 9 will fit an 11 block and vice versa. no point going for the 11 unless you have a high compression ratio/big bhp, or your bored,got the time and tools to drill the block and head.

I was reading last night apparently its mainly the cooper heads that have the extra studs.

Hi,

All the 1275 head gaskets have the 11 stud holes, even the cheapies. A good copper one like Payen are best.
