Wasn't very happy with the steering rack when I 1st put it in, so was always thinking of changing it.

So a couple of weeks ago a friend of my sons said he had one for sale. Money changed hands on rack 2, he drops it off, it into the workshop to find it was seized, on further investigation, the arm was bent & stuck in the rack.

Looking on TMF a lad quite close had one for sale but still on the car, off I went & 2 hours later it was off with the subframe still in the car. All looked okay until I cut the rubber boots off to put new ones on, guess what? that one is bent as well, but this time on the small arm coming out of the universal so it's knackered rack 3.

Well buys rack 4 off eBay this time, advertised as good condition, well it arrived yesterday, had a good look, nothing bent, nice & smooth, so puts 2 new boots on today, takes my old one off, puts the new one on, everything is going fine, didn't even mind having to take the side panel back off. Tightens it all up & it turns as smooth as anything, quite happy with the result UNTIL, I notice the wheels are going in the wrong direction, you turn the steering to the left the wheels move to the right. It's a f*****g left hand drive rack I have put on upside down without realising or at least that's the only explaination I can come up with   :( :( :x :x

Blimey getting a LHD rack must be staggeringly unlikely in this country.
I'd suggest sticking it back on ebay correctly described - might even make good money from a European/North American owner.

What about using one of the bent ones in as exchange to minispares for one of their recon racks, gives you someone to shout at if it isn't right.

p.s. congratulations on getting one out with the subframe still in place, horrible job without a proper ramp.

That's what i thought, sent a snotty email to the seller but he hasn't replied yet. My problem is time, I have the SVA Tuesday, is there anywhere between Sheffield & Coventry that is likely to have one in stock tomorrow.

Cheers Ian, I'll take the numbers & rack with me tomorrow, I'll try my normal factors, they are normally good at getting stuff.

Can you not swap the small arm over on the one that is knackered with one that is not. Looking through the haynes manual, the small arms are the same at both ends, so with you having 6 of them you mush have 2 good ones....
