so i bought the blue beach buggy body loosely sitting on a suzuki vitara chassis, it wasent a great fit as the body was a longwheel base and the vitara a swb, body was 92" and the vitara 89" so not a million miles outthumbnail - 2024-01-10T132615.393.jpg

so it was a close fit but not close enough and made worse by the fact i dident want to cut or modify the chassis at all so i could avoid iva
so out came the trusty angle grinder and with a bit of jiggery pokery the body fitted thumbnail (14).jpg

so that got me a vitara chassis with a secondhand buggy body sat on it, most of the vitara floorpan and bulkhead with pedals steering column mounts in about the right place

clearly i needed to fill in the rear where the vw engine used to reside , so i made up a mold but later found a suzki X90 front bumper was a perfect fit and provisions in it for lights, win win thumbnail (34).jpg

so the disco was pushed into the workshop with the tractor, and the body removed to start its journey of being recycled into baked bean tins

this left me with a disco 3 chassis to play with, it was the much stronger chassis and the air suspension that appealed to me thumbnail (47).jpg

has far to much front and rear overhang and tooo long in the middle so clearly mr angle grinder had to come out to play again

Andy that looks brilliant you are far more creative than I could ever be, although having the space helps immensely I'm sure

Hi Alan the space helps for sure in fact I couldn't do a fraction of what I do without it, but I was warned 30 years ago
Space is a curse..... You just collect junk lol

tis true
anyway with a more beefy chassis and more horses i decided that l need a better body than the second hand blue one that had been cut about
rather luckily i bumped into a chap that made them over by cambridge all sorts of shapes and sizes
and would you believe he had a 2 for 1 offer on

the red body was then offered up to the disco 3 chassis and was a pretty close fit

i can cycle the air suspension from high to low just using a 12v tyre compressor, will probably have the back and front on separate circuits can go from about a 10" wheelarch gap down to the tyres rubbing the arches

now the engine choice has changed several times , it started with a 1600cc vitara engine then i decided i may as well use the 2.7 V6 vitara engine i had 180 hp seemed enough then along came a supercharged jag with body damage but perfect mechanical
screenshot_943.png

this appealed to me for a while but then reality crept in , its to complex for instance its got a canbus network then a high speed canbus network and then an ultra high speed canbus network as well, why does it it need 3 networks, but even on a simpler level things like the auto gearbox require an input from the ABS to determine when to shift gear and as im not using the abs from the jag it will never change gear, which is a shame as 420hp appeals to me lol, the jag is still complete and driving and its a hoot to dive with traction control turned off, scary in fact
so common sense crept in and i decided on a rover V8 as they are easy to wire up still makes all the right noises just half the ponies
and i have a P38 with body damage that i cant see being repaired so the 4.6 is going in the beach buggy for now, i may go back to the jag engine if i can get it to run out of the car or i might just biuld a space frame and use all the jag running gear engine box and full wiring loom, anyway i dont need to make that decision right now as im going to use the rover to get it up and running
