Starter problems

Hi
A friend of mine has problems with his starter motor.
He has an R reg Mini Cooper.
Starts alright from cold but once its warm it's like having a flat battery. Put the jump leads on and its starts OK.
Battery has been changed for a new one but still has the same problem.
Any ideas?

Could be a faulty earth are you putting the jump leads onto both terminals of the battery or battery & body?

I'll have to ask, the only information I have at this stage is what I have posted.
I will ask him when I see him tomorrow.
Thanks for your quick response.

Check oil type and level, pistons may slip easier when cold before they expand, and if there is a lack of lubricant this could be an issue at hotter temperatures.

Does it over run when he turns it off, is the OIL light staying on or comming on when he idles (cold) I'd guess it doesn't go off when it is hot as he won't be able to turn the engine over enought...
