Dave,

If I understand right are you saying to mount the brackets onto the channel inside the car directly behind the seat belt mount

Dave did tell me this some time ago, but I couldn't manage to get them to fit, they fouled the gearchange rod & were very close together. I suppose though in there if they did flex then the SVA man wouldn't be able to see it anyway.

Just a little update of last nights work, hub mounted handbrake brackets put back on under 1/2 height nylocks, new brackets with padding made to pull felxible brake lines away from handbrake cable. Modified the subframe mounted brackets by welding a 1/4" plate across the back so they now rest against the chassis, had to take a litttle bend out of one as one was touching chassis & other wasn't. Put trim around shockabsorber mounts & back of rear lights. Started to cover engine cover. Just thought also change bottom ball joint nut to a full height nylock & replaced tie rod with nylock on both sides at back.

Subframe end
Shock mount
Back of light
Engine cover

Alan,

I have to agree the rear cover looks really good

I missed the point about the brackets for the rear lights needing covering.

If someone was to come into contact with them they would have had to be hit by your bumper, probably fall onto the hot exhaust and then wrap themselves around the light??

Hi,

Glue the trim on as its suposed to be a permenant fixture- this is what i was told by the taunton examiner, so i told him it was, which it wasn't, but he never checked luckilly!

So how much of the pointless trim will fall off 20mins after you get home from a pass.
None of it!! It will take me at least 45 minutes to get home

Hi,

mini caliper bolts just have spring washers under the bolt head. Some metro calipers had locktabs, but ive only ever seen one set of these.

Alan,

Looks like your getting there.

Had a chat with Dave the other day re my brake lines and he asked how we found the SVA inspectors, when I said that they were friendly and really quite helpful he suggested that it might be worth putting this on the site so that people are not put off by the test.

I have to admit that I was really not looking forward to my SVA test but after going with you and meeting the guys at Nottingham I think its fair to say that I am no longer concerned about the test. That does not mean that I assume that mine is going to pass first time but doers mean that I am confident that they will give advise on anything that is wrong the first time.

Well went back today, and as some of you are already aware I came away with a MAC in my hand. Just a coulpe of niggly things the rear brake flexible pipe brackets I had made, one of the rubbers had come out on the way. He noticed I hadn't put any nut caps on the two upper ball joint nylocks & he wanted a bit extra trim on the front cycle wing brackets. The only real problem was the emmisions, I drove it down to the local garage on Tuesday night & set the CO2 level to 1.2-1.4% but when he tested it today it was 6.8% we leaned it off but it just wouldn't come down for the test. He changed the machine so it just monitored the emissions & it was down at 1.4-1.8% but as soon as it went into test mode they went back up to 6+ Anyway after much messing about he finally got a pass out of it, but must have taken 20 minutes or so.

Anyway I'm well chuffed

Excellent news Alan. Well done.

I almost posted after your txt, but didn't want to steal your thunder.

What was the decision on the caliper lock washers?
