Freestyle LSV Project

Hi Everyone......

I though it was time to at least start my build thread and get something going so here we go!

I have been looking for inspiration before I started anything, which is my usual way, to get a feel for what I would like the final project to look like so I have some angles to work with.

I wanted to go away from the 'sport' kind of build and wanted something different. my first ideas came when I saw this, the Ariel Nomad......112413-ariel-nomad-suv.jpeg

This was the sort of angle I wanted but it felt too modern and I carried on looking for something similar but more to the older style. That's when I started looking at military styles as an idea then I came across this.....the Longline LSV

LSV-1 (1).jpgLSV-4 (1).jpg

This was much better to the ideas that I have been having so this will be my inspiration for the build and see what comes out of it at the end.

So I have named this project Freestyle LSV.

Looking forward to seeing what the finished article looks like.

Hi All....

Just a quick update on the freestyle

I have started stripping the corner sub assemblies from the frame over the last couple of weekends and it all went well. I will put up some photos shortly......

The plan is to get the frame stripped and prepped for powdercoat and go from there once I have got the frame and subframe off and prepped.

looking forward to getting into it over the spring/summer

Progress is going well with the freestyle.......

I haven't managed to do photos as of yet as I am currently doing all the smaller jobs when I can at work, so photos are a bit awkward to do at the minute...

I have just about got all the corners (hubs, brake assemblies etc) all stripped and painted ready to be assembled.

Photos will be a bit more regular once I have got all of that done and move onto the frame etc that is at home and I can spend a bit more time on it.

enjoying it all so far and looking forward to getting the frame, subframe and wheels prepped and sent away for powder coating before the end of the summer fingers crossed!

Quick Update........

I have finally been able to get some help and have got my frame stripped and flipped over.

The next job will be cleaning up all the floor getting it all prepped for a new coating and get all of the underside edges all cleaned back, primed and painted before I get it flipped back over and do the same to the top surfaces.

I keep forgetting to take photos but I will definitely remember to try and start taking some from now on!

looking forward to all the prep.

Hi all.....

Progress has finally started on the buggy and I have been taking advantage of the warmer weather and getting on as much paint as I can before it turns colder and we get some rain!

I will put a photo dump on soon where I want to show off the floor and some of the frame work in it's new colour..........

Photos of the frame upside down to get the floor stripped, painted, stone-chipped, primed and top coated......

the photos aren't great as as you can see I am limited on space but I have made do pretty well I think so far!

The floor on the inside with the frame the right way up

I gave the inside floor the same treatment with less stonechip and an extra combi primer before the zinc primer and top coat

I haven't managed to do photos of the hubs and brakes etc as these were done at work during my lunchtimes so I needed to use my time wisely but they have all been stripped, primed and painted with coach enamel and fitted with new bearings and ball joints.

These are now fitted so I need to do photos of that next and put those up

Just a thought if you are at this stage I would spin the gearchange housing round to get the correct use of the reverse lights.

Ah ok will do its not back on that chassis yet so that will be my next job after the front suspension and before starting the brake pipes

I have got one of the front suspension brackets made and painted.

I found some pre made brackets on eBay that are 50mm x 25mm with holes pre drilled so that made the job a lot easier and for a decent price so I can't moan on that one!

I just made the adjustments as you can see and hopefully they will do the job...if not I have got 2 spares so I can have another go if needed.

and while I couldn't get the shocks mounted as I need to mod the bolt to mount them I got the subframe on and all the bits organised for the rear subframe so hopefully that can be the next task before doing the brake lines.
