Getting a V5

On my drive I have a mini shell which I am not really using for my build, it has a VIN, I don't know the reg and I have no V5.  Can you apply for a V5 without knowing the reg?  I checked the V62 form out and it asks for the reg and I'd rather not pay the £25 unless I know I can get a V5 for it.

Any thoughts??  ???

V62 is the correct form, just leave the registration blank & fill in the VIN number, I would then add a short letter explaining that the chassis was bought without plates attached. There is though a risk that registration attached to that VIN is still running round, but that theoretically isn't your problem. As to the £25 don't think there's a way round it.
