Currently working on the K series derivative, turning out to be a bit harder than expected  but we'll get there in the end, obviously I'll put a post on here when we're finished

Sounds great can t wait to see it, also Dave if you see this post are the shocks being a problem with the k series, i found this on the net and thought the pics of it may help,

http://www.davebence.co.uk/onyx_firefox/build_4.htm

Also as for the R1 sub frame cant wait, i m looking at doing my Diesel one for off roading and a GSF1200 one too (track days!), bolt in, bolt out sub frames, Diesel and Bike motors.

Any feed back on this ideal is listen'd too.

Heres some pic's of the motor last night they arent great, but my mate buggered up his back when he lifted the engine out so another trial fit will have to wait until I have knocked up an engine hoist.

Nice, love it! Thats gonna be one fast Mo-Fo!

I got a Thunderace (YZF1000r) too, was gonna rip it up and put that engine in one too, but to mint to strip, gonna have to sell it instead,

On a T plate 12K dry miles and full service history if you know anyone who wants one £2150.

But i have the ideal of a Bandit motor as they are 10 to a penny once i have the Style Build and SVA'D, not as fast as the R1 but will still do a good job.

Add more Pics when your done.

Alan,
I am not far from Absenthe, Worcester in the West midlands.
If you you are ever around and want to take a look you are most welcome.

If you are wondering about the design for the rear end I cant take the credit, modelled it on this......
http://s164.photobucket.com/albums/u15/ ... CF0022.jpg

Not a dog....its a chassis from an Formula Jedi single seater, they run R1 engines. "Simply" a case of measuring the the parts and adapting it to the freestyle front end.

Paul,

Thanks for the offer, was more thinking of if you weren't too far away I have a engine hoist which you could have borrowed. Have you spoke to Dave about one? He has one which was one that was orginally used to hoist patients out of beds in nursing homes. It was from a place not too far from him, I called in but they didn't have any at that time.

Alan,...

Alan,
Very kind of you, I am thinking of getting a block and tackle or similar and fixing up a beam in the workshop, seems the cheapest option. Can then move the car around under it.
Thanks for the offer.

I recently bought a 1 tonne block+tackle and a load leveller from
transtools (on ebay) the load leveller they sent is rated 750kg which is a little sturdier than the one advertised (and US made 8))

Been rigging up a frame over the weekend and building up the courage to pull the engine off the subframe :D

Out of interest where did u get the Formula Jedi and whats the £?

Also Trans tools off ebay look good, but did they mess you around delivering the goods?

Transtools stuff arrived in 2-3 days IIRC, was in to collect so no courier problems.

Oh no, the question I dread :D

I've still not really made up my mind. Have a 998 A series from the donor which probably needs a rebuild. I've gone through the following list a couple of time and get a different answer every time LOL. So I'm concentrating on getting the buggy started and worrying later. Trying to do everything my own unique way has always been a weakness of mine

A series 1275
A series 998 super or turbo charged
A series 1275 with BMW k series motorbike head
K series
1.2 Fiat F.I.R.E.
Zetec SE (1.25, 1.4 or 1.6)
Bike engine (from a cruising bike - maybe ST1100)
CVH
XE
2.0 Zetec
Others (4AGE, Ecotec etc)

A series pluses are you get to hang around with the mini guys, and Dave's done all the work making it fit. Minus's are they cost a lot to rebuild to good power outputs (a lot more than getting a modern hatch with the same as standard) and the gearbox becomes a weak link unless you throw big money at it. They also aren't as light as the all ally engines.

K series has a good range from 1100 through to 1.8 VVC, but I'm worried about longer term parts supply, not to mention the overheating problems that may get even worse in a buggy.

Fiat F.I.R.E. is an excellent engine, but the range tops out at 1.4.

Bike engine is cool and cheap power, sequential gearbox. But you need to stretch the wheelbase to get the chain and diff in. Lots of fabrication required.

CVH, XE and Zetec have good power and are almost free to buy, but weigh too much.

Zetec SE has lots of advantages (exhaust even comes out the easy side) and is where I'm leaning today, but who knows tomorrow

Thanks for all the suggestions! My mate with the buggered back had a moment of inspiration whilst having a few days off work to recover.
It involved a 3 tonne trolley jack, some scrap metal and a piece of rope and hey presto, the engine can be lifted in and out fairly easily. :D

Have to have a re-think when the rear suspension is done and the whole thing is sitting off the ground

Noooo, last thing I need are more options :D

Not that I'm a snob when it comes to diesels (look what Audi did at Le Mans).

Problems (IMO) for the buggy are weight, noise and only 58bhp.

Maybe one of the new alloy diesels (FIAT/Vauxhall 1.3) or the one in the Lupo.
