Laners "ASBO" Rebuild

Here Goes:

Bought the buggy off Asbo in December. Gonna keep the name and paint job for the time being as I love it.

Asbo delivered it from Glasgow in all that bad snowey weather that we had. He stopped for an hour or so, cup of tea and he was gone back up north!

I knew that there was a serious knock in the engine. I'm a self employed mechanic, so no real problem.

Removed the back end, engine, subframe and running gear all in one.

Every thing covered in oil and grunge. Gonna change every gasket and seal on engine and gearbox.

Spent hours and hours cleaning everything with Jizer and a tooth brush!!!!!!

Seperated the engine and box and found No2 bigend knackered. The con rod and the crank also knackered. Picked up 2nd hand parts and got to work reconditioning engine. New bearings, seals and gaskets. New all pump, release valve etc.

Will post photos soon. I'm gonna treat all metal parts with rust cure. I've also got hold of some 2 pack epoxy red lead type paint. Here is the treated subframe.
Sorry can't get pic at mo............will update later.

Pics of gearbox rebuild.
I'm afraid I forget to take any until it was nearly finished. Lol.
I've fitted a 4.1:1 crownwheel and pinion because I'm not looking for top speed. I want off roading and may try 14 or 15 inch wheels. I wont know till I try it!

Hi all
I haven't posted for a while - been busy with work.
I have been doin bits and pieces on the buggy though.
I keep forgetting to take pics though.
I've painted the subframe orange to match the colour scheme.
I've overhauled the hubs and drive shafts.
Renewed brake hoses, cylinders and shoes and had the brake drums skimmed.
I've got new handbrake cables and will make new brake pipes.
Today I cleaned the back end and primed in red lead........getting ready to re-fit the subframe.

I'm finding (as I'm sure you guys know) that one job leads on to another and its easy to lose sight of the finish.
I'm not to cleaver with cosmetics whereas I can get it 100% mechanically good.
Also it seems kind of pointless because I'm going to use it hard in the lanes and that is some real rough terrain.
Oh also forgot to say, I picked up 6 Morris Minor wheels with legal tyres on ebay for £10.
Catch ya later, Rob.

That was the start of my troubles.
I had probs getting the subframe to line up with the chassis.
I think maybe years of hard driving had caused something to twist.
Anyway after cursing and swearing I got there!
