SEAT SUBFRAMES

Hi all...
Got some money burning a hole in the pocket and have been researching seats. I need to work out the postion and mounting of the seats before I hang up the welding mask for a while.
Can anyone tell me, do the seats in the Freestyle need to sit up on universal subframes ( that will raise them about four/five inch's) or can they sit on runners ( that raise the seat height about an inch and a half)

Sort of things that are on here.

I am about six foot, but still want to be able to see over the steering wheel.

Minie are bolted on the runner directly to the floor, I'm about 6'. I did originally put a 40mm piece of unistrut at the front & 20mm at the back. But had to remove both pieces as the top rail was in direct line of sight for me. These are the seats Dave has Click but expect to pay This kind of money for them, TBH this is a bit high but £150-200 is quite common.

These look quite good Click again

You don't need subframes or adjustable seets unless you are planning on swapping drivers for a driver that is a diffrent size... I have universal runners on my seats but only so I can move the seat forward to remove the rear engine cover.... (My wife thinks it is so she can drive too.....)

I find that with a crash helmet on my head hits the bars too but I get use to just looking ahead. (I'm just 5'10")

Have you considered sitting on the floor ? It might sound silly but that is what we are doing. As soon as I get hold of a digi camera I will post some pics.

Basically we are using some 2mm ali sheet to make a tunnel, seat back panel etc to create a seat shape and then make a seat cushion out of 4 inch thick foam.

You end up with more leg room, more head room and sit straighter in the car so don't get the offset steering wheel effect.

Cost will be less than £40. Will I be able to stand up after a 200 mile journey ?

Thanks for all the help and tips guys. These turned up in the end
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... &rd=1&rd=1
and I managed to snap them up, the chap had them in a landy for a while. I have taken the seat subframes out of my mates Ginetta donor car, the trusty old sierra. After chopping all the extra scrap metal off I am left with a set of sliders that I can mount on the floor that will keep the seats as low as possible but still give me the adjustment incase I want to get the rear bulk head or stow things behing the seats.

A tip for future builders........the seats I got from Ebay (shown in the link) dont fit!! Aaarrgghh.. They are far too wide at approx 500mm across the front of the seat. I like to learn the hard way!
I have ordered some more. Cobra 7's fingers crossed.......
They should be here by the end of the week, one step forward, ect...
