Which offset

Going to be ordering some wheels for the buggy (bonus just came through and I need to spend it before the missus :))

Looking at weller steels at the moment (which are on sale until March 6th).

Which offset is most suitable for a 13"x5.5 inch wheel running 70/80 profile tyres?

+19
+9
-12

Alan: I seem to remember you were thinking about some white ones a while back.

Wheels touchy subject at the moment in our house :D

Bought some 12"x6" white Minilite or type which look nice from the side if a little small. But when you see them from the front or rear they're too narrow. So last week I came up your neck of the woods Gateshead & picked up a set of 15" BMW mini wheels, but they are the other way completly they look too big, maybe if the tyre profile was taken down then they maybe better but need to use spacers with them as the offset is all wrong. So today I have been & fetched a set of 13"x7" Starmags which need a bit of a refurb & I think painted/coated white. These are still hidden in the back of the van waiting for the dragon to go out before I fetch them in.

I'll get tyre sizes, offsets & piccy's tomorrow as it's hmmering down here at the moment.

It would appear that my Minitor 12x6's are in fact 12x5's fitted with 165/60's which uncannily are the same diameter as my 'new' Starmag 13x7's fitted with 175/50's Evidence for the prosecution There is nothing about offset on the Starmags at all & the only thing on the Minitors is +6 so not much help I'm afraid.

Anyway here are the pictures

12x5 Front offside from side
12x5 Front offside from front
12x5 Rear offside from side
12x5 Rear offside from rear

13x7 Front offside from side
13x7 Front offside from front
13x7 Rear offside from side
13x7 Rear offside from rear

Comparison of the 13x7 & the BMW 15"

Hi
I'm currently running volvo alloys which are 5.5jx14 2h et 37 wrapped in 175/70 14 colways i'm using 1"spacers they fit great and handle well but i'm running a 4.13-1 final drive if you use a large wheel the engine/gearbox with a standard diff will struggle to push the buggy up hills and have fairly slow pull offs although great when you get going! another thing is the camber angle changes dramaticaly viewed from the front my wheels lean in at the top alot so when she's back on the road i will be investing in some adjustable lower arms and tie bars!

Hope this is of some help

Cheers

Thanks Lee,

I pretty sure that means your effective offset is 37-25.4 = 12 ish though it makes my head hurt trying to figure it out ;)

Hope you're back on the road soon.

Alan,

Thanks for the pics, wheels look very tidy (but even my missus would be able to spot the difference between that lot :D)
+6 sounds like the offset
If this site is to be believed your Starmags are also +6
http://www.gbcarparts.com/products.asp?cat=70
But ultralight extremes in the same size are -7.

Think I'll probably go for the +9's but I'll leave it a day or so just in case Jerry/Dave disagree.

Hi,
I'd go for the cheapest! I'm using Ford Escort RWD wellers, that i redrilled to 4" pcd. Set of five brand new fitted with brand new Colway M&S Rally Plus, Paid £175 for the lot.
The Starmags are my favourite wheels for a mini, Had a set many moons ago on a turbo'ed 1275GT.

Jerry :)
