My 12V cordless manages 29 MPH :)

Alan (hmalan) are you coming to Stoneleigh?  If so and you still have the issue we will take a look then.

I have a gearbox attached teratrip rather than the cable one, that was until yesterday when the whole thing started spinning and registered nowt on the Speedo...  Managed to salvage it (removed wires and soldered on new ones) and have converted it to run off an old speedo cable I had as it also leaked oil.  All is well again now.

It sound to me like it could be that the wires are damaged somewhere but you say you have tried a second teratrip also with no success, and also that the drill didn't produce a signal makes it sound like the issue is in the wiring between the acewell and the teratrip.  Saying that if you are only having intermittent readings using the magnet and sensor then it sounds like it is the wiring closer to the acewell.
