Just thought I would throw a quick one out there,
I have been consulting the IVA manual when it comes to mounting the seats. To give me extra knee room under the steering wheel I will ditch the seat runners and bolt the seats straight through the floor, I can't see any problem doing this. What I have interpreted from the IVA manual is that I need to use 100 x 100 mm spreader plates which seems reasonable. Here is what the manual states
"b. Fixed Single Seats
A typical single seat fixed directly to the vehicle floor is likely to require
load spreading plates at least 100 x 100 x 4mm thick.
spreader plates fitted between the front legs and the inside of the vehicle floor
spreader plates between the rear leg securing nuts and the underside of the vehicle floor.
OK so I know the size and thickness but I find it strange they have not specified a material. So I could use wood as long as it meets the above criteria.
Just to clarify I am not going to use wood but I wonder why the material has been omitted? I am sure that that mild steel sheet would be best but to keep weight down would alloy be acceptable? I think that this should be clearly stated in the manual.
Got hold of some nice off cuts, these should do nicely.
